Hebrews 12: 1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, let us run with perseverance the race marked out before us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
A Thought
The writer is reminding the Jewish Christians (this truth applies to all Christians) of the faithful witnesses of those who by faith believed and were strengthened by the promises of God. Anything that would draw us into sin, we should dispose of. Jesus the perfect one who with joy paid our penalty for sin, his shameful death on the cross, now sits at the right hand of God. We should fix our eyes on Jesus, follow his example and not grow weary or lose heart in doing what God has called us to do. Our suffering is nothing to compare with the sufferings of the cross of Christ. Let us grow with faith and worship in obedience to our Lord Jesus the Christ.
Our Prayer
Father help us to lay aside all things that would separate us from you. Strengthen us in your Word that we may bring glory and honor to you. Fill us with your joy as we run the race set before us. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen. We love and thank you.
