Psalm 16
Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on their lips.
Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The broundry lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body will also rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
A Thought
David expresses his trust and faith in his Lord God Almighty with joyful praise. We as God’s children need to take refuse in knowing that God will keep us safe with set broundry lines in pleasant places with a delightful inheritance for each of us. If we will keep our eyes on Jesus, we can rest secure as he counsels our heart with his instructions to make our path of life known. In the same manner that God did not permit his Son Jesus Christ to see decay but resurrected him, we have been given the promise of a resurrected life eternal. Therefore let us rejoice, be glad and sing praises to the One who keeps us safe.
Our Prayer
Father even when evil is all around us, we can trust and take refuse in you. In these troubled times teach us to surrender to your council. We have sinned against you and broken your laws; forgive us we pray. We rejoice in knowing our sins are forgiven because of the blood sacrifice of your Son Jesus Christ. Awaken us to our path that you have planned for each of us to produce fruit for your kingdom. Lead us by the power of your Holy Spirit. We rejoice with thanksgiving to you, our loving Father in Jesus’ name, amen.
