Acts 2: 42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
A Thought
Wow! What a difference in Peter since he has received the power of the Holy Spirit! He has just preached a message to the men of Israel that the man that they had helped to have nailed to his death on the cross, God has now raised him to life to be both Lord and Christ. Knowing in their heart that they were guilty, they asked what shall we do? We must all realize in our heart that we are also all guilty of sin. The answer is still the same for today as it was then: Repent and to be baptized. That day about 3,000 accepted the message, were baptized, devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread and to prayer. They sold their possessions and had all things common together. They met together daily in the temple courts with glad and sincere hearts while praising God and enjoying the favor of all people. The Lord added people who were being saved daily. Can we learn anything today about the power of the Holy Spirit? What if we modeled our lives in the same manner as the apostles? What if we were willing to have all things common? What if we were devoted daily to learning the scriptures, breaking bread together and to prayer? What if we had sincere and glad hearts praising God? Do you think we would see the guilty being saved daily?
Our Prayer
Father we are so guilty of being focused on ourselves that we have forgotten the value of the cross and our resurrected Savior. Awaken us to the power of the Holy Spirit and to the power of our personal witness of you. Cleanse our lives that others will see your love by the way we share our love with them. We desire to see people saved from the corruption of sin in our world. We ask for a boldness to share the truth of your word that the Holy Spirit may work your gift of repentance and hope to those around us, in Jesus’ name, amen.
