Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my like, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

A Thought

We have a painted pictured in this Psalm of complete comfort and trust that we as believers in Christ can experience in our world filled with fear, sickness, disease, pain, hardship and death. When we walk in obedience and trust of God and his word, we will have no need of want. Philippians 4:19 promises that “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” We have no reason to fear because the Spirit of God is living within us: leading, guiding, teaching and comforting us with his goodness and his love that will eventually gives us our perfect dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.

Our Prayer

Heavenly Father thank you that you have provided our every need to be fulfilled with your love and grace as we trust and obey you and your word. Restore our souls as we walk with you. Anoint us with your power of the Holy Spirit to give your comfort, strength and peace to others who are helpless, filled with fear, without you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
