John 14: 15-21

And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever–the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in the Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.”

A Thought

Jesus speaks words of comfort to his disciples about his soon departure from this world. Telling them if they love him and keep the commands that he has taught them, the following is true: they can ask in his name for anything that will bring glory to his Father and he will do it; he will not leave them as orphans; he will ask the Father for the Counselor, the Spirit of truth to come and live with and within them and the world will not accept the Spirit, because they cannot see him; because Jesus will live, they will also live and on that day they will understand that Jesus is in the Father, and they are in Jesus, and Jesus is in them. We as disciples are given these same words of truth to live by today. Remember, if we love Jesus, we will obey his commands found in the Holy Scriptures. All who love Jesus will be loved by the Father and Jesus will love and show himself to us.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for making us alive in Christ. Help us to obey your commands to love you and others. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that dwells within us to empower us to become your disciples and to make disciples for you. We ask in Jesus’ name that we bring glory and honor to you our Father, amen.
