John 7: 37-39
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time, the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not been glorified.
A Thought
All of mankind are born will an emptiness or a thirst in their lives that money, power or fame can never fill; only God can satisfy this thirst. Jesus is making this known to the crowds on the last day of the Feast that whoever believes in him will also receive streams of living water, referring to the Spirit, that will flow within. Later after Christ was lifted up into the clouds, the power of the Spirit was given on the day of Pentecost when Peter and the others were gathered in an upper room in prayer with one accord. This same promise is available today for all who will believe in Jesus and obey the Scriptures: we can be satisfied and filled with power of his Spirit to be his witnesses.
Our Prayer
Father thank you that in you, we can receive forgiveness through Jesus the Christ and receive the power of the Spirit to live and witness your love to others. Thank you for your love that lives in us that others will know we belong to you. We love you in Jesus’ name, amen.
