Genesis 1: 26-2:4a

Then God said, “Let us make man in our own image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to therm, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the foul of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground–everything that has the breath of life in it–I give every every green plant for food.” And it was so.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning–the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.

A Thought

God, the Father, the Son, Holy Spirit created man in his own image and likeness; God blessed them both male and female; and God saw that everything that he had made was very good. This message tells me that everything that God had created was perfect–including man. What does it mean in his own image and likeness? Some may have a different idea; to me I believe God could have a physical body and similar likes and emotions as we are created with: God appeared to many in the Old Testament; God walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden; God ate with Abraham; God wrestled with Jacob; God rides on the clouds and the earth is his footstool. God created everything that man would ever need including love and fellowship with his Creator. Hopefully we will receive the perfect place where God has prepared for us to live eternally with Him without any sin, sickness, disease, or death. God has a plan for each of our lives which is so important to Him that He made it all possible through his Son, Jesus the Christ. This is where we will find our rest, in Him.

Our Prayer

Father thank you for your creation. We are sorry for our disobedience to you that changed your perfect plan. Thank you for Jesus Christ paying the price for our sin and disobedience. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that draws us back into obedience to you. Thank you that Jesus is preparing a new, perfect place for all who will believe and receive your love and grace. We rejoice in you in Jesus’ name, amen.
