Psalm 8
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the sea.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
A Thought
Oh! To have childlike faith and praise for our God who has entrusted the care all of his creation into the hands of mankind! How can we see the majestic work of God’s hands in the heavens and his beauty on the earth all around us and choose not to believe and praise his Holy name? We have a Heavenly Father in whom we were created with every provision of life (and eternal life) freely given to all who will believe. When we were small children, God trusted our parents to love, care, and teach us about him. I believe this is the same love and trust we should have for our Heavenly Father. I’m sorry to say not all parents have been good parents for their children and we now see a rebellious generation without love in many ways. God is love. God is able to raise up the rocks to praise him if we fail to praise his Holy name.
Our Prayer
Father we look to you with love and praise because you are our only hope. You alone are worthy of praise. Forgive us – all people were created by you and for your glory. We have sinned against you. Our United States is in chaos. We have tried to take you out of our schools; our laws are trying to take you out of our Nation; we are a Nation at war with each other; we are killing our children; we are greedy, rebellious and unthankful, we have lost respect for authority, we have failed to love our neighbor, we have failed to be an obedient church; we have failed to preach what sin and repentance is; and our church is divided. Thank you for those that are faithful to speak your Truth in love. The Truth will set us free. We ask in Jesus’ name that you awaken us with the power of your Holy Spirit to draw us to repentance, to study and to live by your Word, and to be your ministers of your love and grace to a world of sin and darkness.
