Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Not all people will accept the truth even when it is in front of their own eyes. Jesus had been resurrected and now meets with his disciples at the mountain in Galilee where he had instructed them to go. Some of his disciples worshiped him when they saw him; others doubted. Then Jesus spoke to them letting them know that he has been given all authority in heaven and on earth and that he will be with them always even until the end of the age. Jesus then sends them forth to make disciples of all nations (their commission before was to the Jews, now to all) to baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and to teach them all the things Jesus had taught them. Now, we all share this responsibility to go to all the nations and to make disciples for Jesus the Christ. We may not be called to be a missionary, but we can pray and spend financial support to those that are called to a foreign land to spread the “good news” of Christ. We are all called to share our witness of Christ in word and in our actions to those around us-our families and our neighbors. Remember Jesus will always be with you and the Spirit will lead you with the right words to speak. Trust and obey God.
Father thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus and the power of your Holy Spirit. You have make all things possible for us to receive you. Lead us to others to give them this same hope we have received from you. Fill us with your word that we will not be ashamed of you. We desire to be your disciple and to make disciples for you. Take away our doubt in ourselves and replace it with faith and love for you. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
