Matthew 10: 34-39
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn
” ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law–a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
“Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
“He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cold cup of water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”
A Thought
When a man accepts Jesus Christ into his life, he must follow the teachings of Christ at all cost. If he lives in a household when there are no other believers, life can be made very difficult by those around him. We must love God even more than our own families; we must lose our old way of life and be born anew into the body of Christ; therefore we will find eternal life in Christ Jesus. We will be rewarded for every righteous thing that we do in the name of Christ, even the giving of a cup of cold water to those spreading the good news of the gospel.
Our Prayer
Father we pray for our families and all those who are proclaiming the good news of your Son. Help us to follow the teachings of Christ. We need to not plan our own life centered around ourselves, but to receive the new life you have planned for each of us filled with your love and mercy. It is a privilege and joy to support your ministers of the gospel with our prayers and financial help. We ask in Jesus’ name that you direct us in our path of life that is worthy of your call to us.
