Romans 6: 12-14
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
A Thought
We were all born with the penalty of sin on our lives. God gave Moses instructions on how to live a perfect life, including to serve only Him, what to eat, how to worship, how and when to celebrate festivals, who could and how to make offerings and sacrifices, how to treat others, etc. Sin is the disobedience to God and it comes with a penalty of death that must be paid. God loved each of us that even while we were sinners and deserved to die, He sent his Son to be the perfect sacrifice for our sin. When we believe and accept forgiveness made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we are given grace to be set free from the guilt and penalty of sin. We must then offer ourselves to God as his instruments of righteousness. The law of sin and death is no longer our master because we now have the grace of God living within us.
Our Prayer
Father thank you for your love and provision for grace to redeem us from the penalty of sin and death. We desire to grow in the likeness of Christ Jesus; to be your instruments of righteousness. Lead us by the power of your Holy Spirit to not let sin reign in our mortal bodies. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
