Matthew 10: 40-42
“He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me. Anyone who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and anyone who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”
A Thought
Jesus states that if we receive him, we will also receive his Father who sent him. Have you ever given to a person just because he was a child of God and you wanted to support the work he was doing? Good news! Jesus says that you too will receive the same reward as the individual that you were helping to support. If we even give a cup of cold water to a follower of Christ, God will reward us. If we give, it will be given back to us. God also teaches us that if we give to the poor, we are lending to God. So when you give, give with joy out of a pure heart; give generously and often. There are many different kinds of gifts we can give, such as our time, our love to others, our experience, our talents, food, clothing or shelter, our ability to work, to mentor others in the way of Christ, and of course, you can always give money.
Our Prayer
Father help us to give freely in secret so that the gospel will always be heard. Help us to always see the needs of others and be a joyful giver. Thank you for providing us the gift of your Son, the power of your Holy Spirit to lead us to give this same gift to others. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
