Romans 8: 12-17
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation–but it is not to the sinful nature, to live acordingb to it. For if you live sccording to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
When we were born into this life we were born as slaves to fear and sin, separated from God. As a believer in Christ, we have now received the Spirit of God living in us, enabling us to put to death our old sinful way of doing things. We now have access to our Heavenly Father as his children–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. As long as we remain faithful to our Heavenly Father, even in sufferings, we will inherit the glory along with Christ in the kingdom of God.
Father thank you for sending Jesus Christ to redeem us from the law of sin and death. Through Christ you have adopted us into your family as your children. We now have a duty to live by your Spirit and put away childish things. Help us to be your obedient children, learning by the things that we suffer with full rights to all that you have provided for us. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
