Psalm 85:8-13

I will listen to what the Lord will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints–but not let them return to folly. Surely his salvation is near them who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.

Love and righteousness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.

A Thought

The writer of this Psalm is seeking to be restored back to God. He knows that first he should listen to the promise of peace that God has made to all who will honor and respect him. God will give us his salvation, love and righteousness poured out from heaven when we are faithful to him. The more we are obedient to God, the more he will give us a good harvest and direct our paths. It is time for us to listen and obey the word of God.

Our Prayer

Father we as a nation have turned our back on you. Forgive us. Rescue your church from the folly of this world. Help us to listen and to obey your Spirit to find favor in the truth of your word. Fill us with your righteousness and peace that we may produce a harvest for you. Guide our footsteps in your righteousness as we follow your path in obedience. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
