Exodus 20: 1-4, 7-9, 12-20
And God spoke all these words:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work,
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
A Thought
God speaks to his people of Israel giving them the Law that revealed that the breaking of these laws was disobedience to him (sin). God later sent his Son Jesus the Christ to fulfill the law by making a way to repent and receive forgiveness from all sin and unrighteousness. Jesus tells us in Matthew 22: 37-40, ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Our Prayer
Father thank you for being love to all who will receive Jesus Christ. Thank you that love covers a multitude of sins. Help us to have perfect love for you and for our neighbors. If we love you, we will keep your commandments. We desire to love you and bring fruit to you that is worthy of our repentance. Awaken us with the power of your Holy Spirit. We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
