Leviticus 19: 1-2, 15-18
The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.
” ‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.
” ‘Do not go about spreading slander among your people.
” ‘Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.
” ‘Do not hate your brother in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in his guilt.
” ‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love you neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
A Thought
God speaks directly to Moses with commands demanding the people of Israel to be holy and righteousness. First God must be the one and only “I am the Lord”. God must be obeyed, supreme, above all things. Lastly, we must love others in the same manner that we love ourselves, living in peace one with the other while obeying God.
Our Prayer
Father we love you, desire to obey and worship you. Thank you for your word to teach us how to be holy and righteous with great love for you and our neighbor. Praise to you in Jesus’ name, amen.
