Psalm 107: 1-7, 33-38

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say this–those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from the east and west, from north and south.

Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.

He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground, and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there. He turned the deserts into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs, there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle. They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest; he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.

A Thought

In this Psalm we can see both the hardships God places on the wicked and the blessings with his loving care for his redeemed. God can turn rivers into deserts making fruitful land into a salt waste land or either turn the desert waste land into a fruitful land flowing with springs of water. When we find ourselves wandering in desert wastelands finding no peace with our lives just wasting away, we must humble ourselves and cry out to the Lord our God who will redeem us and bless us with a fruitful harvest. Is it possible that God has placed America in a dry wasteland because of our disobedience?

Our Prayer

Praise your holy name! Father you are good and your love endures forever. You have always redeemed your people when they humbly bow down and cry out to you in their time of distress and trouble. Today we, your redeemed, cry out to you to forgive our nation for turning away from your commands. We desire to live in a nation founded on your word as our law of the land leading us to your straight way. We ask in Jesus’ name for you to forgive us and lead us by your Holy Spirit as you heal our land. Amen.
