1 Thessalonians 5: 16-24

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not put out the Spirit’s fire; do not treat prophecies with content. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

A Thought

Paul’s writing to the church at Thessalonica to be alert, self-controlled and blameless at the coming of our Lord Christ. It is God’s will for us, along with the Thessalonians, to be joyful, to live a life filled with prayer and thanksgiving. We are to follow the leading of the fire of the Holy Spirit and to consider all prophecies. We are to test everything by the word of God in order to gain from the good and to avoid every kind of evil. Paul encourages all of us to separate our lives apart the evil of the world and God who is faithful will keep us blameless until Christ returns.

Our Prayer

Father fill us with the fire of your Holy Spirit to live in obedience to you, always avoiding every kind of evil by chosing to follow your Holy Word. We submit our spirit unto your Spirit. We give you thanks and praise. Fill us with a joyful testimony of your faithfulness. Set us apart to be alert and ready for the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.  We ask in his name, amen.
